Please help me lead the way to the end of breast cancer
Dear Friends, Family & my global village networks (#SoMe)
450 000 women are reported to have died from breast cancer globally in 2011. This is a horrific number but we need to pause and interrogate its real human meaning. We are talking a lives of unique and beloved women lost. Think about each of the 450 000 reported deaths as a person, a mother, a lover, a wife, a sister, an aunt or a beloved friend.
Tragically the 450 000 figure does not include ALL breast cancer deaths - because only 3 out of 54 African countries have reliable cancer registries. South Africa is NOT one of 3.
This must change, and with your help, it will.
Breast Cancer Deadline 2020® is the National Breast Cancer Coalition's global initiative to end breast cancer by January 1, 2020. As a leader in the breast cancer movement and a supporter of Breast Cancer Deadline 2020®, I am committed to being a part of this important work. As a leader, I am also raising money to support the plan of action to achieve our goal of ending breast cancer.
I have made a personal commitment to raise $1,000 and I am asking all of my friends and family to make a contribution to the National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund in support of Breast Cancer Deadline 2020® today. By supporting me, you are helping me play a leadership role in ending breast cancer.
We need all of us to make our voices heard and come together to end breast cancer by January 1, 2020. Please consider making a gift of ($20 Africa & #SoMe community)/$50 (US & Europe) or more to support Breast Cancer Deadline 2020® and help me reach my goal.
ADDITIONAL APPEAL: I need to raise a separate US$1500 to cover my travel and accomodation costs. I require 2 extra travel and rest days because of my congestive heart condition. The NBCC has generously paid for ALL my research training trips, starting with my December 2009 Project LEAD International training in Buenos Aires, Argentina. They hosted me for two Annual Breast Cancer Conferences & Congressional Lobby Day in 2010 and 2012, respectively. Federal funding for research programs including the NBCC's Armetis Project is currently under review. Besides, I feel it is time for Africa to show our commitment and earnestness about eradicating the unbearable human toll of breast, and other cancers, on our Continent.
We need to stand tall and EARN our place as a key voice in the global action to end breast cancer by January 1, 2020. A Stephen Bantu Biko said "Handouts don't improve your self-esteem. Doing it for yourself does."
Deep respect and gratitute for your generous support for the restoration of the dignity of the African woman.
